Call for Applicants: Visions Nicaragua is seeking qualified candidates who are passionate about healthcare, who have relevant medical experience, and who are excited about the prospect of working for a growing grassroots nonprofit to join our team in Nicaragua. We are looking for one individual to serve as our Medical Officer who will live onsite and serve the health and medical needs of our students, staff, guests and visitors. The Medical Officer will have an examination space (12.66 m2) and an office (5.87 m2) in the administrative block of the school (Escuela Vera Angelita). For safety & security reasons, this position is only open to women candidates.

Job Description: We are looking for highly organized candidates with extensive experience in both medical and management roles, with training in diverse medical areas for the position of Medical Officer. As the Medical Officer, you will be responsible for providing and managing essential healthcare to students, staff, guests and visitors; managing the health center’s budgets; recruiting and/or training new staff as needed; keeping thorough and regularly updated medical records for all clients; responding in times of emergency or injury; and generally ensuring that all students and staff adhere to safety standards so that the highest quality of medical care can be provided. 

Additionally, the Medical Officer is expected to treat a wide range of medical conditions and offer continuous support and health management advice. You should be proactive in building relationships with the students and staff and be able to recommend external specialists when care is required outside of your medical purview. As the Medical Officer, we expect that you take a vested interest in our student’s well-being via demonstrating good listening skills, showing empathy, and using clear communication.

The Medical Officer is expected to act as a mentor to students and any additional medical staff, and to help teach and train others. This position requires good leadership qualities, patience and confidence. The Medical Officer will assume responsibility for the faults of any of their subordinates. A successful candidate will have at least 5 years of clinical experience or 3 years of experience in emergency medicine.
